What automatic changes
An automatic heat press is air-driven. The operator loads and unloads; the machine closes, applies the set pressure, holds the set dwell and opens.

The word doing the work is set. On a manual press pressure is a judgement made hundreds of times a day by a person whose arm gets tired. On an automatic it is a number that does not drift between garment 1 and garment 400.
Why consistency is the actual justification
The instinct is to justify an automatic on speed. The stronger case is repeatability, and it shows up in three places.
- Reorders. Your customer compares this batch against the one from six months ago. Documented settings make that comparison survivable.
- Warranty exposure. Under-pressed garments fail at the customer, not at the press. Consistent pressure removes the largest source of that risk.
- Operator turnover. Feel takes months to build and leaves with the person. A setpoint does not.
Insta's own commercial argument is the same one: customers love the consistent product they receive every time they order, and that builds loyalty.

The Insta 718 is the smallest full-size automatic at 15" x 15", air-driven with an easy-access swing-away design and accessory platen support. The Insta 728 steps up to 15" x 20" with front access to pneumatic pressure control. The Insta 828 (240V) is the largest automatic platen at 20" x 25" and runs on 240V — it is also the machine Insta lists under sublimation.
The Insta 780 Dual Shuttle deserves a separate mention: it carries manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic modes on one frame at 30–110 PSI working pressure with a 16" x 20" (40cm x 50cm) platen, weighing 375 lbs.
What an automatic requires that a manual does not
Compressed air. Insta names the absence of a compressor requirement as a key advantage of manual presses, which makes the presence of one the main cost of going automatic. Budget the compressor, the tank, the lines, the drain and the maintenance schedule alongside the machine.
Voltage. Several machines list 240V options and the Insta 828 (240V) is specified at 240V. Confirm the supply at the intended install point before ordering, not after delivery.
Footprint and floor. The Insta 780 Dual Shuttle alone is 375 lbs before you add a compressor.
